"The 2019 Collection is now complete and ready for the exhibition to open in the Falls Gallery, Upper level, Alton Mill Arts Centre, on Wednesday, October 9, 2019.  The Collection will continue on exhibit, Wednesday through Sunday, 10:00am to 5:00pm to November 3, 2019. I will be on site every weekend, 12:00pm to 5:00pm, and by appointment during open hours.

 

The inspiration for "Grey Matter" was my Mother, Penny Simmons, age 91, as of this past week! The ignition was her diagnosis of Dementia, which carries such a stigma that it could be devastating. But, as in the case of her entire life, she, and all of the family, have found that living in the moment with her is both rewarding and enlightening. The Collection is that representation. Beautiful light, that emanates from the essence of my Mother.

 

The Collection is painted in "Grey Scale" to represent the brain, "Grey Matter". Each piece focuses on one thought. Beautiful light is always present, no matter how many details may be lost. The works are painted in groupings of two or three, transitioning the loss of detail to each other, in addition to the loss of detail evident in each artwork.

 

I hope that the viewer is uplifted by my message with this Collection. My Mother is currently doing very well, happy and adjusted in a memory care facility. My weekly visits with her reaffirm the collection. While my Mother may have lost the details of her own life, her beautiful light shines through."
